Secondary Education in Sweden

Grade Levels: In Sweden, upper secondary school, known as Gymnasium, is for students aged approximately 16-19 years.

School Atmosphere: Sweden’s education system focuses on free and open learning. Students have the freedom to choose their courses, and schools emphasize creating an environment that respects students’ opinions. Group work and learning outside the classroom are highly valued and commonly practiced in Swedish schools, encouraging collaboration and hands-on learning experiences.

Academic Year: The school year typically starts in August and ends in June, divided into two semesters: the first semester (Augusti – December) and the second semester (Januari – Juni).

Subjects: Swedish students have the flexibility to choose various subjects based on their interests, such as science, social sciences, arts, or business.

Class Hours: School generally starts between 8:00-9:00 AM and ends around 3:00-4:00 PM.
