My Host Family Is a Part of My Life

Staying with my host family during my time as an exchange student has been one of the best things I’ve ever experienced. They looked after me as if I was one of their own. Since I’m an only child, coming to live in a family with three younger siblings has been fun in a new and different way. I had a host sister, who was 16, and two host brothers, 12 and 13.

We were all very close, and I often attended school with my host sister, and we’d eat lunch together. At first I was scared and worried, afraid to speak English because I wasn’t confident in my own ability, but I got more fluent as time passed.

I could talk to my host family about anything and everything, and I did my best to help however I could. I put away the dishes from the dishwasher, vacuumed the house, and did other chores as if I were really a part of the family. Even though I’m back in Thailand now, my host family is still a part of my life.

Thank you for Jamikorn Yimyam, one of our 2019-2020 EduDee exchange students from Prommanusorn School Petchburi for sharing this wonderful exchange story with us.
